I’m Mil and welcome to Mildred’s Kitchen.
I created Mildred’s Kitchen as a place to celebrate seasonal, simple food. Here you’ll find a mixture of recipes, seasonal eating guides and collections of thoughts on various foodie topics, from sharing food with those you love to slow living and kitchen rituals.
Born and bred in the UK, I now live in Berlin, Germany with my boyfriend Harry, where we eat a lot of pasta, fresh fruit and veggies, homemade sourdough and slow-cooked comfort foods. I love nothing more than setting an afternoon aside to cook up a storm, whether it’s homemade ravioli or another batch of kimchi.
Eating and drinking well is deeply ingrained in my family, so my love for food began at an early age. Pottering around the kitchen when I was just knee high I began to understand how important food could be in bringing people together, soothing them in times of uncertainty, or making the everyday more interesting. Mildred’s Kitchen is an extension of that love of food and a place where I’ll record the trials and tribulations that happen along the way, even if the experiments don’t always work.
A little more about me outside of the kitchen:
- I love books – Cannery Row by John Steinbeck and 100 Years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez are favourites.
- Ich lerne Deutsch.
- Whilst I’ve lived in two capital cities in the past five years, I grew up in the middle of nowhere and it will always have part of my heart.
- I studied history and politics.
- Contrary to popular belief, Mil isn’t short for Mildred.
